Hatteland Display to Introduce World’s First 23” LED Backlight Display

Hatteland Display will launch a brand new 23” Series 1 display with LED backlighting at its
special showroom in room Titania at the Felix Conference Centre in Oslo’s Aker Brygge

“In collaboration with Sharp, we are committed to ensuring the long term availability of high
quality 23” displays in order to meet the marine industry’s demand for them in various
applications on both new build and retrofit vessels. This new display is an exact replacement
for our existing 23” display, the JH 23T12 MMD, in form, fit and function, but offers a
number of technical improvements, including the introduction of LED backlighting,” says
Lars Skjelbred-Eriksen, VP Sales & Marketing, Hatteland Display.
The new 23” Series 1 is 100% based on already proven technology from Hatteland Display’s
MMD (Maritime Multi Display) series products. It can be delivered as an ECDIS compliant
display using Hatteland Display’s unique in-house color calibration technology. The recent
redesign of the Series 1 product range introduced a number of benefits including improved
connectivity and fewer cable connections, which increases reliability and reduces component
costs.
“Hatteland Display was the first supplier to offer a 23” display as a radar ARPA monitor and
we are the first to introduce LED backlighting to marine displays of any size. We are very
confident in the LED backlighting solution and are happy to be at the forefront of a possible
industry standard technology for the future. We are also ensuring that the 23” display will
provide a low cost of ownership and be very competitive in the market,” says President

The LED backlighting ensures that the new 23” Series 1 display provides excellent viewing
performance, and is a perfect match for Hatteland Display’s proprietary optical bonding
technology, which provides benefits in reduced sunlight reflection, condensation and
overheating to ensure better viewing clarity, more reliable operation and a longer product
lifespan.
The new 23” Series 1 display with LED backlighting has been made possible through close
co-operation with Sharp, with all specifications and requirements made by Hatteland
Display, based on its two decades of building high quality marine displays. It is built to the
highest standards, and has undergone a strict testing regime, including HALT testing to
ensure reliability in the tough marine environment.
